Credit cards are widely accepted in Cancun with Visa, Mastercard and American Express being the most commonly used. However, please note that it may be less acceptable to use credit cards outside of the major cities. Before you order at a restaurant or buy any item ask in advance if they take credit cards and what type, some don't take American Express as method of payment. Visitors have found problems trying to use Diners Club and Discover cards since not many places accept those ones.
